We practised take-overs last night and it uncovered another problem for me. I wear prescription googles and when I look down at my feet from the block I find my view is distorted and it appears to delay my takeoff. In relays, is another team member allowed to tell you when to go?

As far as I know they can. Maybe the people who read the rules will let you know if they can't.

I always yell at the relay take overs to go whether they have gone or not. No Official has ever said anything.

I have never been stopped in telling a team mate when to take over.

I don't know Brit rules specifically, but in many rule books, it would be considered to be perfectly acceptable- you're getting help in dealing with a minor physical disability in a way that does not offer you an advantage over any other athlete competing.

Also, that kind of verbal cue is indistinguishable from the sort of normal cheering for a teammate you get at any swim meet.

One thing to be careful of is that the pool deck isn't always the quietest place on meet day, and you don't want to mistake the cheering of the people in the next lane for the verbal 'Go' cue of your teammate.

I don't think that's the problem Alan, it's looking down I'm not focussing through the centre of the lens and it's causing some sort of refraction. Of course, the problem could well be my reactions are getting slower :(
