Sounds good to me, especially if it convinces Stevie_k to make the trip to Sheffield to find out just how fast Ponds Forge is.

Oh, and there was me assuming I could invite 100 people and get 100 free drinks ....

I'm counting on stevie_k being there!

It could be fun, trying to guess who you think is who?
As long as it's not in the Chinese "eat as much as you like for £10", I normally feel sick after the 5th bowl of ice cream.

I like that feeling, and I have to eat there at least once during the weekend!

I will have to mull this one over.

I had no intention of going to sheffield at all to be honest.

Although i do know 1 person that is going from my club, so i wont look a complete muppet like i normally do.

Its a long way to drive when your still essentially a novice and you have no chance of even picking up an "in it to win it" medal (gotta love those).

But October would be my 1 year anniversary of joining swimclub and Thurrock swim club.

Ill mull it, and see whats happening a bit closer to the time.

I will also be massaging again for those who need it! lol but i will have help this time thank goodness!!

It is worth going just to see Big Nev swimming in an outside lane that I have managed to sort out and off course to see that wonderful former Leeds swimmer Rachel breaking records.

No i will give you that one Chris, but you are actually a "good" swimmer.

My initial decision not to go is based purely on the fact that im just not good enough to warrent trapesing the length of the country just to make up the numbers.

Thats why i stick to locals. I only go to meets just to see how quick i can go out of my own curiosity and ambition. Its not like i normally even know anyone.

However i will know a few in Sheffield so ill continue to mull.

Im assuming the whole range of races will be available.

I am warming to the idea.

Try this one Steve:

Oh and you don't need to be "A good swimmer " to compete. You should go for the atmosphere and the realisation that you could become a good swimmer.

The men had the score board end 2 years on the run, by mistake. The ASA are evening things up.

I remember one poor swim at the score board end last year ( I fell asleep), and an all time (18 year) pb at the diving board end, so I'm happy to swim at the diving board end. When your totally knackered you don't have so far to walk for your swim down too.

Yeah, it doesn't make any difference from a "quality of swim" point of view, it's just that at the end of the race my eyesight isn't good enough to read my time on the scoreboard from the diving pit end.

Chris, your not suggesting we drink alcohol are you?

I will if anyone else does...but then again ive nothing to lose im not that good anyway. Plus IF i go all the races that i really care about are on saturday.

I am warming to this idea actually. It would give me the incentive to train even harder, which im really trying to do at the moment. I want to try to take it up a notch.

I have my eye on 400 free, 100 free and 50 back on saturday. They are probably my best and favoured races anyway.

If i do sunday id do 100 back which is not my best event, i get away with the 50 down to good strength, but the 100 exposes my shoddy technique.

Maybe i could do the 50 free and 50 breast too. They are just fun to me. Dont really hurt too badly, could probably do them with a mild hangover.

Thats IF I go though....still quietly mulling....i am just thinking it would be a great story to tell the girls, i swam at the national championships...they arent to know i came last and there was no entry time are they!!! my little secret. (im not joking, i am that shallow)

I seemed to swim well after a few drinks last year, and my reaction times were much better also! A bottle (or two) never did any harm ;)

Stevie_k
27-07-2007, 11:45 AM
It would probably kill me.

Ive only drunk alcohol twice so far this year.

Half a glass of wine and im anybodys.

There is a guy at our morning club who drinks everynight. He's also 47 all ripped up (6 pack the lot) and is as fast as a rocket in the pool. Amazing!

You'll open a can of worms with this email - is there any way to hide it from just Jucy Lucy ?

You can only swim for one club, i.e you can't swim in a team just for relays
You must be a member of a club for 3 months prior to the event, if you haven't already joined it's officially too late.

Agreed zanshin, profile gave the game away for me, but then on a recent visit, the two dogs did. LAZy will be one to watch after returning to Masters competition earlier in the year and would expect to see gold medals in abundance going to East Yorkshire just off the A63.

Here's your reminder to think about joining us for the dinner on the Saturday evening.

And here's your entry form

I'm still in 2 minds about the Nationals, got my first gala on 22nd Sept and was going to see how I did @ Guildford before I commit to Nationals and all the time/expense that goes with it. Maybe if I was in a club with lots of people going it would be different , but i'd be going on my own (sob) - not even a relay swim even.....:cry::cry::cry:

Stevie_k

Animal please bear in mind that i am also on my jack jones. I have no club mates to go with and will only know a few people from this forum. So if you do go you can talk to me. Can we make up a relay team 'the lone rangers'.

Im thinking most likely to do saturday. My fav events are on saturday, the 400 free, 100 free and 50 back. I can take or leave the rest.

ahh - Stevie and Odie, thanks for your nice emails. Checked on the entry form posted by Juicy and my two best events are on the Friday and Sunday (50 free & fly). don't beleive my luck. I might skip the nationals this year, afterall I haven't even done a gala yet and not quite as "into" swim meets as most of the posters on this forum as yet. If I really enjoy the Southerns at Guildford in a few weeks then who knows, will start looking around for some more meets.....
But thanks anyway.

Whilst I'm not really sure who JL thinks are the "Gestapo" but taking a wild guess and on the basis that "if the cap fits..." I guess that makes me the fuhrer. So John whilst I am attracted to the idea of a finswimming demo, I'm not sure that it is possible at the Nationals. This is an incredibly busy meet and I can't see how we would find the time to set aside 5 minutes never mind 15-20mins.

I appreciate this decision has been made in true dictatorial fashion and if you wish I am happy to take your request to the other members of the Reichstag.

Following JL's comments in another thread:

... it is about creating social models that work and that are examples. It’s about giving opportunity to everyone. Above all, it should reflect the rich mixture of the social and multi-cultural tapestry that we British are so proud to be part of ...

Do you think we will have to ensure a mix of food is eaten? i.e. some people must eat red meat and others must eat white meat. Not everyone can have pizza etc.

The more I think about it I'm not sure that going to an Italian restaurant is such a good idea - how does that reflect our multi-cultural tapestry?

With regard to Stevie.....I'd say so...but as his biggest fan I am biased!

Shame I had to run off for my train though! I literally caught it by the skin of my teeth.

Great to meet everyone, we should do it again!

I loved watching the swimming too, made me eager to get into meets!

Great idea and a nice evening. No swims today so plenty time to see off bit of hangover that hurt nearly as much as 200 breast. Thanks JL for organising, great to meet up.

It would have been nice to meet the boss i must admit. But i had an excellent time. I didnt really eat all day, so i was tipsy after the first 2 beers i had with MJC in a bar before the meal.

She had to ply me with doritoes to calm me down.

I had a really great time the whole weekend. It didnt hurt my mood any by constantly crushing pb's.

If i was honest having the 'very' beautifull MJC cheering for me probably gave me superhuman showoff strength!

Meal was good, lucky some sharpys realised we were being overcharged by a ton. Im mug and bad enough at maths to just pay it.

I knew everyone at the meal but HappyA and MJC, so it was very nice being plonked between them 2. I was fairly tipsy in the end, i strategically only left myself a 3pm 'dash n splash' 50 free next day so the hangover didnt hurt too bad.

Definately up for any future gatherings!
