About roughly 2 weeks ago, there was an article posted on british swimming's website with a list of swimmers who have been fasttracked for the olympics. All of these swimmers have national times, but watching some of them perform at nationals, i have to ask the question of how these swmmers were chosen.

Some of the swimmers failed to make pb's and yet there were other swimmers there who didn't make the fasttrack that performed better than the chosen few.

If anyone could please inform me of how the swimmers were chosen it would be very helpful

i think peraps its been a mix of the whole measurement thing wing span etc! and recent swims before nationals, this list will be added too i am sure.

I think it was some fairly simple calculation of ranking lists by event and age group in conjunction with times by percentage of what it takes to make the Olympic final or a world record. As it was done several weeks BEFORE the nationals it was clearly going to throw up some differences in names compared to if it was done now.

The 115 swimmers you referred to have not been "fast tracked" as such. They have simply been identified as swimmers who MAY be showing the right kind of talent and performance level to make the 2012 team should they maintain their current rate of progression. It is by no means exclusive or a definite indication of who will swim for GB in years to come.

The swimmers selected thus far will not be sprinkled with any magic dust to make them go faster, nor will they be given access to some fancy new training methods or techniques that their non-selected contemporaries won't get. All they will get this year is three single training days, probably as more of a bonding get together exercise than anything else.
