From Leeds Masters site.....

It's been confirmed that LIP will close on 21st October, then the new pool (or the "Aquatics Centre at John Charles Centre for Sport" as it's officially to be known!) opens on 29th October.

As everyone knows, the location of the pool isn't that fantastic. In fact it's a nightmare for anyone without a car. The situation will improve shortly though with the introduction of a new bus service (no 76) between the city centre and South Leeds Stadium. It's not going to be that much of a service though - it only runs once an hour, the first bus out of town during the week isn't until 10 to 8, and there's no service at all on a Sunday!

Incidentally, for anyone that's heard about the University's plans to build a pool and is wondering what the latest is, the project is definitely going ahead. Construction is due to start next year, with completion expected in 2009. Whether or not the public will be able to use the pool has still to be decided. However, the pool is supposedly going to open at 6.30, and they're hardly likely to get many (or any!) students in at that time of the day, so they as well allow the public in.

Info from Leeds City Council:

Facilities

50 x 25m pool with moving boom;
Diving pool with movable floor;
Seating for 800 spectators;
Extensive changing facilities
Aerobics Studio;
Multi-use room;
Cafe
Free car park.
The centre is situated at the John Charles Centre for Sport, just 2 miles from Leeds city centre.

The pool will be available for 50m and 25m swimming, over 50's sessions, club use, training programmes as well as children’s fun session and parties and aqua class.

That's beter than I previously read here, I thought that it was going to be a 25m pool only. My neice is in Leeds Uni and is excited at the prospect of a new pool.

...sorry Spidey The Leeds Council info is about the new Leeds International Pool and NOT the Uni one. The new pool looks amazing though, although its a bit out of the city.
