Very scathing comment.
Have you any evidence to support it.
Just because you have fallen out with your club there is no need to slag off everybody else in the North East.

What kind of trouble are MOST North East clubs having?
Running out of money?
Running out of members?
Running out of quality coaches, could be now you have jumped ship?
Not what I have heard and I keep my ears open when I travel around the Region.

running out of facilities as they're all closing for maintenance, some are closing for good and not being replaced by facilities of the same standard!

also Local Authorities reducing allocated pool time for clubs in order to increase amount of public swimming (again as a result of other facilities in the area closing).

So Roys time is almost up. Shame in some ways as he had a few fairly good ideas for Doncaster.

Can't see the Council following this course though. Inability of the Council to get the Premier squad coach out to the feeder clubs on a regular basis and inflexability of the premier club in pool use leads to the local clubs not wanting many of their swimmers to join Dartes, so possibly a shrinking club.

interesting! could this have been a factor leading to roy's decision to return to Hull? or do you think he has always had a soft spot for Kingston?

So Roy has gone back to Hull.

What now for DARTES..

Makes and interesting thought Could DARTES be shrinking. Even mores so now that Thorne, one of the Doncaster Clubs has decided to go it alone at County Level. Seven swimmers from their own Club qualified and competed at Sheffield today. Although they did not make any finals, it was good to see a small club be brave enough to field its swimmers against the big premier clubs. Go Thorne good luck..

Sounds as though Doncaster Council have frozen the funding to enable Dartes to appoint a new Coach.

This will probably mean that Andy will take over in the short term until something is sorted out.

Good luck Andy and the team, hope you don't lose to many swimmers to other clubs.

Whats Happening at DARTES. According to the ASA as at 5th April 2008 Doncaster DARTES have been suspended which means they cannot compete in any competitions.

It also Appears that the Doncaster Metropolitan Swimming Association has also been suspended from the ASA.

Its all coming to pieces in Doncaster. Also noted that South Axholme Sharks have also been suspended from the ASA.

For those who don't know - can we have an idea of the surname of 'Roy' ?

Will he be coaching anywhere that accepts Masters swimmers?

Roy Shepheardson - coaching at Kingston Upon Hull (see www.kuhsc.co.uk) don't know if they have masters or not.

I heard that the council refused to fund a new coach, i may be wrong, in fact its very likely I have gotten the wrong end of the stick, but that's what I heard in my wanderings. But I agree, an interesting thing to watch for...

No I'm still around Chris, and still very involved at Dartes.

The situation is quite simple really. After a long, long period of discussions with the council we eventually secured a council paid, full time head coach. As has been stated above, that was Roy. For 2 years or so he did a fantastic job of improving the standard of training for the top squad. At the same time another young coach, fresh out of finishing a sports degree, did a similarly top notch job with our age groupers.

Roy decided he quite fancied taking over the reigns at his old club Hull when the opportunity arose, so he left. It happens, no big deal!

At this point, the plan between the council and Doncaster Swimming clearly wasn't baring fruit so the council took the opportunity to pull their involvement. Again, it happens, no big deal!

So that leaves Doncaster's swimming community in control of their own destiny again -- which I'm more than happy about.

Since then, we've secured funding to pay for a full time head coach and Andy has now been in position for a couple of months. His new assistant is some guy who's name currently escapes me. The numbers are fairly stable (although admittedly low), the quality of work being done in the pool is as high as I've ever known it and still improving (obviously that's my opinion, others will disagree, but they always do).

So someone suggested things are falling apart? I'd say the exact opposite. I've been around Dartes for a long, long time and I honestly can't remember things feeling this good since the early 90s. From my vantage point, I have high hopes for the future.

Clearly that all depends on Doncaster's swimming community as a whole. We're not a teaching club, we rely entirely on the town's clubs to support the training scheme. There will always be people around who disagree with how things are being done and believe they can do a better job. Whether they can or not is a different matter and they very rarely come forward to help out. We'll see what happens over the next few months.

My honest opinion is that swimming in Doncaster could be on the verge of becoming seriously big again. On the other hand, Doncaster's biggest problem has always been too many egos! Too many self important people putting their own reputations ahead of helping to do a good job together AS A TEAM.

Here's hoping those days are behind us and the whole of Doncaster Swimming can move forward together now.

Hmm, as was discussed on a different thread on these forums a while ago, I believe this was all a clerical error on the part of the ASA. Indeed the list of "suspended" clubs that I saw was extremely long.

I do find it quite alarming though, that KnightDiver was so quick to jump in and point the finger like that. Almost gleefully it seems. Bad form KnightDiver!

We've had knitting competitions and tea drinking festivals in the past too. You wouldn't believe how many train spotters make annual pilgrimages to Doncaster Station either. It's a real go-getting town these days you know :zip:
