hello! i am a 15 year old, midland district standard swimmer. i used to train 7-8 times a week but quite a few months ago i was not able to train properly because i was not eating enough(i did not do this to loose weight, i just am a fussy eater and couldn't find time to eat).i am now eating enough because i gradualy overcame that problem but i still cannot train. il be alright for the first hour of the session but then i quite suddenly become unable to swim any more, i get over taken and cant make the times so need to leave the pool. i had a blood test at the doctors and the results showed that my blood was fine, but when i saw another doctor he thought that i had fatigue syndrome or something like that. Please could anyone give advice on how i could over come this problem as its very depressing and i couldnot bear to give up swimmng.

Thanks alot:)

First question i think should be asked is what do you eat, when you now eat? Is there a balance of carbohydrates, fats & proteins?

i do eat a good range of foods including the right amounts of protein, carbohydrates and fat. my mum attended a 'nutrition for athletes' course wich helped her buy the correct food for me.

I honestly don't know what to tell you. Does anyone else have any clues?

Two things which come to mind are: 1. Glandular fever, this may not have shown up on a blood test if you are not at the infectious stage. 2. M.E. Having dealt with a swimmer with M.E. it is difficult because some days she was fine others she lasted 20 mins. I really think you need to go back to your G.P. for tests because it needs sorting and I am not a medic. (These are just possible assumptions)

i'd definitely agree with the glandular fever - i'd completely forgotten about it until now but i did go through a patch when i was always tired and had no energy and i kept getting blood tests and they didn't know what it was until eventually it showed up on one of the tests as mild glandular fever - i didn't have any of the other symptoms, just a bit lacking in energy permenantly. it went away eventually and i was fine again.

maybe it's mono - i think the full name is mononucleosis or something. it exhausts you; a few of my friends have had it before. it's contagious through the spit glands. if you've been sharing drinks or kissing someone, perhaps that's what you have. i don't know if it shows up in blood tests, i THINK it does, tho...good luck!

(for all you americans out there mono is the same as glandular fever)
