Thought I would start a thread up for Thorne. Saw them last week at County. Had never heard of them before this so did a little reasearch and found that they were a club from the Doncaster area and supposedly part of DARTES.
Went to the DMASA Mets championships again today and guess what, saw more Thorne swimmers again. Made a note that 5 of their swimmers made finals and that one talented swimmer in the Boys 10yrs won the 50m fly convincingly
Although they only appear to send out small squads of swimmers at the moment, those swimmers in the main appear to be class performers.
Would like to know a little more about Thorne, have read their website at www.thornetigers.co.uk but they give very little away as to what is happening there.
If they continue this way they could pose a threat in the near future, unless they are reigned in by DARTES.

Your kind comments are very much appreciated.
As regard Dartes, we have 1 swimmer who has just started, and are hoping to send half a dozen down on Friday nights as a starter.
We are expanding the coaching program at Thorne, with morning sessions to commence in the New Year. Gym sessions are also available to swimmers who are old enough, and gymnastic type session available to younger swimmers, very soon.
The coaching staff has also been strengthened, a very experienced coach has just joined us, and will be helping out at most sessions.
We have just joined the Barnsley League, and have a full racing calendar for next year. We are a bit short on older swimmers, especially in the girls section, so new members are most welcome!
I hope this gives you more of an insight into Thorne Tigers, and what we are trying to achieve.
Cheers

Its good to see someone from Thorne logging onto the site and keeping us updated.
A very experienced coach has joined the team at Thorne. Now that could create an interesting situation in this region.
It appears that Thorne is increasing its coaching team and preparing to increase training times. An interesting situation in the Doncaster reagion when other clubs are starting to shrink.

yeah, must be right! South Axeholme had their first ever open meet this year!
it's interesting how the DARTES teams are having a go on their own!

Starting from January club fees will be £20 a month fully inclusive (unless we start going skint!).
We will have 2 very exciting 9 year olds swimming next year, and it will be interesting to see how they develop, with more water time.
The input into the feeder lane is getting younger, and this bodes well for our development sessions.
Thanks again for the interest shown, and good luck with your swimming!

Yes we are part of DARTES, but will still send swimmers to County under the Thorne banner, if they do not wish to train with DARTES.

Stuck my head into John charles Aquatic Centre today as Leeds were hosting the first day of their Open Meet and who is on poolside, you guessed it, Thorne, but this time with a bigger squad. Almost the size of Harrogate and City of Sheffield (at least it appeared so.) Sat down to watch the 200m IM and guess what, in the 9/10yrs they achieved 1st and 3rd.
Had to go shortly after that but hope they got more medals throughout the day.
This club definately needs a closer look. Something is definately happening at Thorne.
Will try and go to day 2 at Leeds and see what else happens and see how they did throughout the rest of the first day.
Will we see them at county in Feb/March and are they an emerging club for the future.

Just checked out their website and it seems they managed 10 placing on day one. Not bad. Especially the 3rd in the 200m Fly Jack Green and only 10 too.

A Two day event. Way to go Thorne. Let the Tigers roar.

Okay, so I've read this thread and I've been following the rise of Thorne within Doncaster Swimming with interest for a few years now.
Why do I get the impression that KnightDiver isn't some random passer by who just happened to stumble into the Thorne express, but rather, someone strongly involved in driving the Thorne express?
Nice piece of advertising guys, but seriously, it would be nice to know who you are and what your involvement actually is with Thorne Tigers.
Nice to see lots of people on here are familiar with the Dartes setup though, surely you're not all from Doncaster?

If they continue this way they could pose a threat in the near future, unless they are reigned in by DARTES.
And for the record, Dartes aren't in the business of *reigning in* Doncaster's clubs. Our raison d'etre is to allow the swimmers from Doncaster's village clubs to compete on an equal footing with the big city (and these days county) teams at high class meets.
Thorne currently have 3 very promising young swimmers training at Dartes and I'm sure there'll be more to follow. Here's hoping...

Especially the 3rd in the 200m Fly Jack Green and only 10 too.Is this the same person you referenced earlier?
...and that one talented swimmer in the Boys 10yrs won the 50m fly convincingly.
A relative by any chance?

Well I finally had to register with this site to quell a lot of rumours regarding people who post of this thread.
I am Mark the Coach at thorne and endurance is an assistant coach.
Waterbaby is a thorne swimmer, who was asked to put a link to the Thorne Open 2009.
We have no idea who the person who stated this thread is. They are certainly not part of the Thorne Coaching Team.

Thanks for congratulations BigFish, my understanding is that all the other swim21 clubs around doncaster are only at Teaching level, a big achievement in itself but only at Teaching Level. f I am wrong then congratulations should also go to Rossington as well.
Swim 21 is certainly the way to go at the moment.

This is also (normally) that Scarborough Swimming Culb hold there A & B Graded Meet. Looks like the event at Leeds Pool could be struggling for entries.

There's no such thing as "only at teaching level". My understanding is that the Swim21 levels are not a hierarchy. Some clubs will aim to be accredited at all levels but some clubs will only be accredited at one level. A club accredited at Performance level isn't necessarily better than one accredited at Teaching level - just targetted somewhere different.

chris lamb i think you should have to do each "level" of swim 21!!! from teaching up as in you cant have number 3 untill you have 1 and 2!!!
