Looking forward to a good weekend of swimming, not been to this pool before, is there swim down facilities etc and a cafe or do we need to bring all manner of food and drinks with us.

Thank you

Are you talking about Barnet? I haven't been there for years so I'm not sure about food as they did have a cafe but that could have gone in 4 years. There is a diving pit and seperate 25m pool so they normally give the swimmers the diving pit to swim down in.

Is anyone else swimming??? I'm doing the 200 free, 200 breaststroke and 50 free (plus their finals) in one session and maybe the freestyle skins too!!!

That must be why they've painted the changing rooms at Copthall last week.

There is a nice little cafe at the pool (and also a decent italian bistro at the golf driving range). Warm down facilities depend on the organisers - as Gina says, there is a diving pit and a 25m training pool that can be booked by meets.

Thanks for all your help, we had a good weekend and the little cafe was great - got a fantastic vegetable pasta on Sunday- mmmmmmmmm.
Although it was a little on the cold side (can't believe that I am saying that about a swimming pool), yesterday I did not take my jacket of and apparantly the water was cold - but all in all a good weekend with some good swimming. Hope everyone else did well.

The pool was nice and cold which I liked. I found the poolside was warm at the beginning of the day and seemed to get colder as the day went along. I swam a bit rubbish on the first day. A 1.09 in the back and 8th into the final wasn't the best start, then a 2.31 in the IM made it even worse!!! Decided to go for the final of the back and got bronze in an ok 1.06.02. The evening session went better as I lead out the 4x100 free relay in 57.1. The next day I had the 200 free and 50 free where I went 2.05 in the heat (pulled out of final) and a 26.6 in the final. Kinda mucked up the 100 free final in the evening and finished 2nd in 57.34. The winner went 57.32 and 3rd went 57.39 so it was close! The 4x100 medley relay went well and I split an easy 1.11.7 on the breaststroke leg about 15 minutes after the free final.

There were some good swims from the Ealing lot. Natalie Durant won 12 trophies I think it was (6 events with a junior and senior trohpy for each). She went 2.19.19 in the 200IM and 4.16 in the 400 free. Charlie Turner managed a fast 50.7 in the lead leg of the free relay but the organisers decided to forget about the 5 minute break between heats and finals during the 2nd session and he had to swim the 100 free final in his trunks. He was not happy! The youngesters who moved up to the top squad swam really well and we had quite a few squad records along with Regional records too. Overall there was a good turnout for this year.

I heard a lot of people say the pool was slow but it's probably 90% about the preperation and 10% about the pool in reality.

One grumble was not having the start sheets for the finals on poolside. We had the heat sheets up on the wall but no final ones so I didn't know if I'd made the 200IM final (I hadn't!). I mentioned it before the first sessions finals but nothing was done!

1.11 for breast? Fantastic!

Mine have always loved Barnet, but not for breaststroke! In all the years I've been going to Barnet Meets, I've yet to see a really good breaststroke swim from anyone!

To put that time in context (I know it was a relay and different, but..) 1:09 got to the Final in the Fina Arena World Cup in Sydney last week end and the 9th fastest time was 1:11.

This was a good event, our first time - apart from Junior 50 Free, DS was dissappointed with his swims, got 1 gold, 2 silvers and a bronze, his coach could not attend as he had a terrible accident a few weeks ago and has not been around, this is partly why he did not feel he swam well, as we were on our own with no other club members there, and will not go into the other reason as it may make it worse (or I might get slated again), suffice it too say that if you remember my posts about the summer Londons then this will explain it.

I understand that there was a coaches meeting on Sunday about the London regionals in May - I heard another parent talking about this, was any decision made about the venue!! maybe someone could pm me so that I can pass this on to the coach! Thanks

Yep for breaststroke and I'm doing it this weekend for SL so I'm going to get suited up for that. I am kicking myself for not doing the individual that session too but I chose freestyle as I had the breaststroke in the relay. I would have loved to beat some of the swimmers in that final!!!

A random fact ... I got my first national time at Barnet and it was in the 100 breaststroke.

I was only thinking today that prospective entrants for the Winter Championships should take care not to confuse them with the Winter Swimming Championships, otherwise a rude shock awaits  :aarrgghh:

Well since London Regions I've been having some sinus troubles resulting in some lovely yellow, watery liquid coming out of my nose (too much info I know) and a nice chesty cold! The 100 breaststroke came after the 100 fly and 50 breaststroke and I was quite nervous. I was finding it hard to breathe on the fly but the breaststroke went really well. Allan got me as 1.12.0 and Dave got me as 1.11.8. The best news was the 26.0 (Allan) or 25.9 (Dave) lead out on the freestyle relay. I felt soooooooo fast and was going so fast on the first length that I turned on a half stroke which annoyed me a bit. Any time I do SC these days, I tend to be 95% confident I can do it LC.

Feeling better but not 100% yet. At the London Interboroughs I went 1.11.60 in the 100 Breaststroke so I was very pleased last night.
