It's like at the 2000 Olympics, during the women's 50m Free final, when Amy van Dyken claimed that was her event and nobody would beat her, and even spit a mouthful of water into Inge de Bruijn's lane. (Remember that? Even reports de Bruijn hissed like a cat at van Dyken in the hallway before warmups). But who won the race? De Bruijn (van Dyken came in 4th btw). She, much like you need to, blocked out the distractions and ranting and raving of an overly cocky rival and focused on her race. She knew she was the best in the event in the race, and focused on it. De Bruijn was the top qualifier from Prelims to Semi-finals to Finals, and was/is the world record holder in the event. Van Dyken had to beat her, not the other way around. De Bruijn knew this, and so whatever van Dyken said or did seemed pointless. The moral is that you're (probably) the number 1 seed in your event consistently, and this girl has to beat you. You know you're better than her, so why bother thinking of what she says. Who cares? She has to beat you, not the other way around. Use that as confidence, and ignore what she says. Eventually she'll grow up, because nobody likes a sore loser, or a sore winner.
