Head coach at club would like us to invest in the new wireless timing system from Colorado - Dolphin System. Anyone used this system or know of anybody who has, would like to know what they thought of it before we buy it.
:aarrgghh:

We're about to buy it so I might be able to let you know in a couple of months or so. I saw it working in a demo by Colorado staff and it certainly seemed to be pretty good. Feeds results directly into Meet Manager and to a scoreboard if desired. Watches can also be started directly by a Colorado starting system.

See this thread (http://www.swimclub.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=6448) for further discussions.

I'm not convinced by the value at that sort of price. 6 standard watches are far cheaper and while the gain of not having to collect times is significant I'm not sure it's that strong. And how much is a replacement "watch" when one gets lost, broken, etc.?

I would also question the accuracy of the times. With a standard stopwatch you get the reaction time of the timekeeper included at both the start and the end of the race whereas with the timing synchronised with the start system you only get it at the end. It is easily observed while watching the backup times on a standard electronics system that they are not great in many cases.

You'd probably also need to continue to have timekeepers using a standard watch as a backup and possibly even collecting the times so that you have validate those recorded by the system.

We now have the Dolphin Watches and Starting device, and I must say they work really well so far. Easy to set-up, easy to use, beginner friendly, and generally makes the whole task of running an internal club meet, or local meet without full AOE much easier. The integration with Meet Manager is really straight forward and the times are easily imported into MM from Dolphin after each heat. And not a wire in sight! Well done Colorado!

Just a quick reply to the valid points from Chris. With the Dolphin system you can set it up to start either from an electronic start system or from manual start, dependant on the users preference.
