The opportunity has come up for pullbuoy to run an SMS text alerts service during the Commonwealth games, to help keep you up to date with what's happening in the swimming events (UK number only I'm afraid - sorry all you Aussies and Americans :o )

However, this would not be free for me to run, and will either need the recipients to pay or a sponsor. If it's a paid service, cost would be £1:50 (added to your mobile phone bill) for approx. 10-12 alerts (i.e. 1-2 updates per day of the aquatic programme). This would not make a profit!!

If i get a sponsor it would probably be free, but this is looking unlikely at the moment. So before I commit to anything, I thought I'd get your views; if you could vote in the poll above that would be great!

Do you take abstentions? Nice idea, but I don't use a mobile. :)

As I will be at every session I won't need any text alerts. Sorry.

Ho Hum, I guess I should look on the internet for the results and probably live results. Oh well.

Lane 4, how will you be at all sessions? How did you get tickets or are you officiating?

Maybe he is a coach! With his experienced comments on this site I would have put him in that bracket. ;)

Funnily enough if wasn't meant for people who are actually going to be there...

Are you with the Scotland team then, along with that other famous Scottish coach, Dave Calleja?

As the Scottish team's coaching staff is already completely made up of 4 non-Scots (2 Englishmen, 1 Canadian and 1 American) they didn't see the need for another. Hence, my passage to every session has come through the volunteer route. I have been allocated a role on poolside as a 'training marshall'. From what I know so far this means doing things like taking the backstroke flags in and out, escorting swimmers/coaches to and from the main pool / training pool, making sure swimmers don't get held up by the media for too long straight after a race and general hanging about overseeing the warm-ups. Should be fun!

Steve, maybe I could text you the 'news behind the news' for your SMS service?

Thanks to you all for voting and your comments. :D

I have negotiated something and a text alerts service will be forthcoming on pullbuoy in the next few days. I'll also post full details here when they're confirmed

A text alerts service is now up and running!

See http://www.pullbuoy.co.uk/alerts for full details.

A full update of pullbuoy should come later today or tomorrow. :D
