Wow you've gone out on a limb on some of them 2.0
Fair play for not going for the safe options.
However I'd love to see you put your money where your mouth is. I'll lay you 5 to 1 Klochkova to win the 400 IM (i.e. you stake £10 and I give you £50 plus your stake back if she wins). Now that's worth thinking about isn't it?
Great idea for a thread (two threads). Well done

Couldn't we have a SwimClub sweepstake? £10 a shot or more if you like although it would be more for the privilige of knowing how much better I am at predicting the medallists than anyone else than money that I would win.
I would be willing to work out and keep the scores (a good scorer always wins - only kidding;)) but I wouldn't be prepared hold the stakes, especially if it was real money, someone else would have to do that.
Could we use paypal do you think?
Oh and it's a bit early yet, perhaps cut off a fornight before? 2.0mps, I can't see some of those swimmers you've picked even swimming in those events.

thats the joy of picking now! for example phelps could swim in ost events but which ones will he choose!
i am sure i could sit down and take hours goin through the fina lists and bring out most medalists but thats no fun!!
i think we should all just pick then i will give winner of most medals a bottle of wine!! money is not the right way to go on the forum i think!

I would be amazed if Klochkova beat Hoff in the 400 IM. Would also definitely put Coventry somewhere in the mix on the 200 back... probably should know this 2.0mps, but are you american?

I won't deny that I had to go and look up what happened there. Impressive stuff, but I still wouldn't write Coventry off!

e guessesWho is Raatz? And what do you know about Laura Pomeroy that makes you think she can drop from 26.0 in 2007 to the 24.5 or so that will be necessary in 2008 to win a medal?
Woodward

Katherine Raatz is a young swimmer from Arizona that I've only faintly heard of ... despite that she apparently has competed at several meets I've attended.
I think he's picking some of his bronze medalists out of hat (or somewhere else). Britta Steffen may be surprised to hear she's competing in the 100 back. Confusing her with sprint/back star of yesteryear Sandra Voelker?

yes woodward raatz is a friend of mine and i think laura pomeroy has a big drop waiting for her this year!!!
l4 where are your predictions???

i think laura pomeroy has a big drop waiting for her this year!!!That much was obvious from your previous message but I asked why you thought that, and sadly you've not given a reason.
I predict that Raatz won't make the team for Beijing. I predict that Steffen won't be swimming 100 back in Beijing. Other predictions I'll make later. Is this thread for serious predictions or are you deliberately trying to lose credibility?

And Coughlin has repeatedly said she'll never ever swim a 200 back in elite competition again. She totally hates the event, and the only reason why she swam it at university was in order to get points for her team at NCAAs.
I would agree almost 100% with Woodward again on his picks. The only one I'd swap is the bronze medalist in the 4x200. I think GB can step up and get this one over France. You could have a low 1.57 lead out (McClatchey), another 1.57 (Marshall) and two 1.58s (from Jackson, Gandy, Beckett, Adlington and Halsall) as we are quite strong in the 200

you make your guesses i will make mine!! if you think i am not being serious or trying to discredit myself then dont comment on it! jesus man you dont need to take the world so seriously its a forum that counts for very little if anything so dont get yourself so upset! trials have not even begun so what does it matter, i could have picked you to win the 200 breast or jl to win the 200 fly it makes no difference to my day i wont loose sleep because i dont know you and you dont know me! if someone comes to me in 9 months time and says you said x was ging to win or y and how come they didnt your a bad person do you really thing i will give a F.U.C.K?

If I can get these goggles to stay on when diving in then you can be sure I'll be a medal contender in Beijing. Not sure If I can win it, but I'll certainly be up there.

2.0mps I'm interested to know what everyone thinks and why but only if they have credibility. I wouldn't be interested in my husband's guesses because he would pick Mark Foster, Ian Thorpe, Sharron Davies, Sarah Price and Hannah Miley to win everything because he has never heard of anyone else. How could I learn from this or enjoy competing with him? Why would I even bother reading his post or replying to it? He has no credibility at all when it comes to swimming knowledge, nor does he care.
I'm interested in how you picked your swimmers; you clearly have a lot of swimming knowledge and I'm always looking to learn new things. However, if you include swimmers in your list that everyone knows won't swim that event and pick other swimmers just because you know them it undermines the credibility of all of your guesses and what's the point in that?
Exercises like this one may be for fun but it's only fun if you take it seriously!
do you really thing i will give a *.*.*.*?I'm sure you won't but there's no need for that. Go and sit on the naughty chair!
Bully

Does that mean that because I don't know how many of the swimmers are currently doing or plan on trying to qualify for, means I can't guess, and they would be complete guesses but I would like to play?
I'm getting my list together now but I'm going for some real outsiders (mainly Chinese because they're dam clever), but for all I know they've packed in swimming now especially the younger ones?

I'm working on my mens 1500 selections at the moment and I like the 1500 swum on negative splits, so can anyone suggest a rank outsider who's good at coming from behind?

I'm struggling too. I thought of Juicy but then remembered there is no 1500 for girls.
When I think of the guys I am struggling to tie up the first requirement with the second.
