Before its knocked down forever artists have been asked to create work in the (now empty of water!) old Leeds International Pool....
A major public art event will open on Friday 22 Feb at the Leeds International Pool, St Paul's Street, LS1 4PH. Comprising 'The Accumulator' by internationally renowned osa (Office for Subversive Architecture) in the main pool, and 'Pool' by Leeds based Pippa Hale in the small pool, the works present an opportunity to walk right into a
piece of Leeds' history, both in terms of visiting a landmark which is soon to disappear, and experiencing a new wave of site specific contemporary public art for the city.
Opening times 22 Feb - 23 March (Easter Sunday):
Thurs and Fri 12 noon - 6pm, Sat and Sun 12 noon - 4pm, closed Mon-Weds.
Disabled access. Free.

These badges are brilliant. You can park on double yellow lines for up to three hours at a time. I've saved pounds in parking fees over the years.

I've had my fair share of fines. Just picked up another last week. Those speed cameras really irritate me. If I get caught again I'll reach 12 penalty points. I'm driving so slowly now that I'm annoying everyone else on the road.

Well what did you expect? 2.0mps and I both have accents that defy any kind of culture or breeding. I know I've been called an artist of sorts many times, but what do I know about proper art anyway?

JL, you at least know that it's spelt with a capital F.

Did I understand you correctly, a culture filled thread, and the two loves of your life, JL and 2.0 mps?

Ok maybe a petri dish filled with culture...and yes of course JL and 2.0mps are the two loves of my life (although really thats three as JL is two people) and also after Kookiegal.
I still don't understand. You are after Kookiegal, or JL (and JL) and 2.0ips are?

I once went to an art gallery in South London. The exhibition was basically all constructed from the artists, ahem, droppings. I hope you don't get any artists of this ilk in LIP.
On the other hand, that day I walked across the road to an art college which had a display of student work on restoration of art works. That was fascinating.

Brick you saw Gilbert and George I trust? and not Carl Andre'. Three days spent at the tate modern is bliss with its revitalizing properties after a day at the poolside. If every spent swimming pool was turned into an art gallery the world would be a more pleasant place. That is as long as they replaced the pool with a new one.

Welcome to the forum.
It definitely wasn't G&G, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't Carl Andre' either. It was a small gallery and I think it was a lesser known artist. I agree the Tate Modern is great.

Thank you for the welcome. I've not posted previously for various reasons but have gained several good links from this site and enjoy reading some worthwhile contributions
Gilbert and George of course have used their OWN in thier work which at the time caused alot of publicity. As did Carl with his Brick's.
Sadly the tate modern is a long way away as are all the major swim meets. Our local Tate is that of St.Ives.

Plenty, but not meant to be art! The last ever session at the pool, swimmers were stealing the tiles for momentos!
