View Full Version : That kit!

Watched the opening ceremony on TV last night. Apart from when they are up against Welsh competitors - and even then I'll make an exception for Rebecca Cooke, who is a really delightful person as well as a world-class performer - I'll be rooting for English athletes.
But THAT KIT the team wore in the parade! Tacky or what? Team after team marched out, nearly all of them looking really dignified, particularly those with an element of national costume or some incredibly smart blazers, particularly from the Caribbean countries.
Then England. White shell suits with broad gold panels! Yeugh! Looked like a job lot from C&A's closing down sale. The connotation of gold at a sports meet makes it particularly tasteless. It might suit Ali G or Sanjeev from the Kumars, but they're parodies.
What on earth were they thinking of? They aren't going to wear this tat on the rostrum, surely?

We'll let the medals table do the talking Stella. This is a sporting contest after all, not a fashion one!!
I quite liked the kit actually, although I think blazers are the way to go. However I had just seen the Guernsey kit, so from then on, anything looked good :rainbow:

Have you seen the leg suits the English have to wear for swimming. They are gross! :o
Mark Foster is modelling it in the ASA Swimming magazine!
Wales and Scotland have a similar one too except different colours!:p

Baz Baz Baz. I was never implying the performances would be anything less due to the kit and I'm sure the medals tables will do England justice but you have to admit, that kit did not do them justice walking in at the opening ceremony. They are fine when receiving medals but for a host nation at the opening ceremony, I think they could have done far better and far, far classier.
and for the record Baz, I think you'll find, it was not me who turned this post into a fashion forum. Phil was of a similar opinion and in fact, if you look closely, started the thread.

Yes but Phil comes across as a traditionalist - you just lowered the tone because you're jealous!:p

Even I have more taste than the people who chose that kit and anyone who has ever met me before knows how little taste that is!! :o
Believe me, I will never be jealous of any English person because of their nationality or their team kit! I have absolutely no reason to be. Trust me! Now before I start getting a slagging for being anti english or whatever, I have nothing really against English people, I am just glad I aint one. :p No but seriously, I just thought the kit could have been much classier. No jealousy there just an honest observation Baz.

I have to say I was a bit shocked when Karen Legg stripped off this morning - very bold fastskins we is wearing this week! I thought they were alright once my eyes adjusted to them...

Oh I see what you mean ;) Credit to the ASA for once though, for not forcing the team to wear diana suits, or unbranded fastskins. Probably only due to the fact that puma are the official kit sponsor - might have been a different story if they made a bodysuit..

It could have been worse - they could have all turned up looking like Serena Williams (Cameroon).
