Darren Mew didn't do a fantastic job of hiding his disappointment at not getting the gold.
Given the coverage that the swimming is getting he might have been better swallowing his pride for 15 minutes until the cameras were off him.
Although he is only human .....

I was thinking that myself Chris, but then I got to thinking. We have a British swimmer who isn't satisfied with a bronze. Is that really such a bad thing?

yeh i think he has every right to be disapointed if he felt he could have got gold, and why should he have to hide it and be fake for the cameras??? - im not havin a go @ u guys, thats just my opinion

I think he should hide it more for his team mates than anything else. I think he's got a duty to be upbeat for everyone else in the team that still has to swim.
Of course I can understand his disappointment (although I could only dream of having reached Commonwealth finals level) but it's part of being a team-player.
But I guess disappointment at a bronze is a definite improvement over missing a final, or missing your PB by 5 seconds .....

I certainly agree it didn't show a very sporting side to his character.
I think both James Gibson and Sarah Price did a great job of praising everyone else on the team though (although that has to be easier having a gold medal round your neck).

Am I remembering this correctly -- Didn't the English girls go 1-2-3 in 200m Bc 4 years ago at KL too? Helen Don Duncan, Katie Sexton, and ? was it Sarah or Jo or someone I've completely forgotten.

'Fraid not, Sexton won Gold, Don-Duncan (the overwhelming favourite beforehand) the Bronze and our very own Deaks was 6th. Meredith Smith of Australia won the silver.
Here's the result (you'll have to scroll down a bit though as the anchors don't work  ): http://www.sadec.com/KL98/Pages/Event1.htm#Day7

I also spotted Darren's 'disappointment', shall we say. I am not the least bit surprised though. He and Gibbo were neck and neck going into the games and he must have thought he could get two golds or at least silvers. If you look at it from his point of view, in a 1-2-3, you don't want to be the guy who gets bronze - I mean if you were guaranteed a medal, you wouldn't be happy with bronzze. To get one third and one fourth must be a bummer, but he'll be back. There's alot more to come from these guys I think, and Adam gave them both a wake up call. Three world class br's is good news whichever way you look at it.
