Just had a browse through the report from the first day of Nationals and as was predicted by forum members, there seems to be a very large number of Championship records falling this year, presumably due to the new age on day rule.

Also, does anyone know what happens if you're birthday is on the second day of the meet for example, so you are swimming the age you were on the first day, and then you get a championship record on the third day? I might sound like I'm trying to be difficult here but I was told by an age-grouper in Oz about a guy who this happened to and they deliberated for ages whether the record should go to him or not but the guy i was chatting to had to go for presentation and I never asked him what had happened and I just remembered the story!!!

Usually the rule is age as on last day of the meet for meets lasting more than one day! I have seen one example (think it was Scottish nationals - maybe one of our friends from north of the border can confirm), which was age as at first day, which seems strange, but there we go!

Of course just to confuse us, all the county championships were age as at 31st March, yet our counties were swum betwen the end of Feb and the middle of March. There were at least two people in our club who swam in an age group older than they were, even though it was age on day...:(

OK its age on 1st day of the meet over here!! Same difference though Baz - your birthday is on the last day so you are swimming a year up for the previous days. Would an age-record for the age you actually are when you swam the race count or not as your swimming the year up?

If you set a record, it will be for the age group you compete in. Therefore if your birthday falls during the competition, it will be the age you are after your birthday. The age you are on the last day of the competition.
