2nd class postage stamps go up by 3p and 1st class by 2p on 7th April, so buy now if you are a club secretary seeking to correspond with the ASA
Stamps are still printed with just First and Second on them, so any bought now will be valid after 7th

Will the new ones be a different colour, how long before the old ones need additional postage added?

If they say 1st and 2nd, rather than a monetary value, they will be valid whatever the rates - no additional payment needed.
I stocked up on mine this week!
Costco sell 1st class at a discount (in bulk) and Superdrug also discount 1st class sometimes (not sure if that's on at the moment).

Yes - that's right; older stamps had a price on them and therefore when price increases came into force, you had to buy 1p or 2p stamps to send out your letters
But for many years now the inscription 1st or 2nd class has been used (to disguise the price increases!) and therefore have no use-by date on them.
Ask your house-sitter to do a little shopping for you Spidey.

Is it really worth stocking up? The increase is only 2p and 3p. There won't be a massive saving. People are not sending so much in the post these days now that emails are more widely used.

Everyone can exercise their democratic rights on this JL! :)
I'm the Secretary for a Nurses' Guild and send out quite a lot of post, as many of the members are retired nurses and don't spend much time logging onto swimclub.

Can anyone answer the question, is the colour changing? I have coloured envelopes to match the present 1st and 2nd coloured stamps.

Spidey, surely nobody buys coloured envelopes so that they match the stamps? Whatever next?

I suspected that I was a bit sad, following some of the threads on this site. Now I know that I am! I think that I may have that drink now.

I like to have my face next to the Queens on the front of an envelope.

It's quite fun actually! You choose your favourite photo and then edit for size.
The joy of this forum is that you never know where a thread will lead.

I'm sure the Queen will be pleased, with 'that' next to her face!
