Probably as good as any measure of water temp etc. The beaches wont be much warmer, but they shouldnt be colder

Hi, some time ago on an open water swimming thread you very kindly posted a link for me to see what the sea temperature was at the buoy off Dover (I think!). I have looked everywhere for the link but can't find it - would you mind sending it to me please? Myself and some of my swimming cronies/fellow nutters are going to begin swimming in the sea off Ramsgate again soon and I was hoping to get a rough indication of what the current temps are. Thanks in advance

    kind regards
    Alison

Yes, we do. She would find us near the Inn on the Beach on the West Beach of Hayling.

We just go swimming off Hayling effectively to the west of the buoys that mark a safe swimming area. efitz No 6, KatieBun (not yet a Lido Legend), moi, Matron, Tasmanian_deville have all taken to the water off Hayling but then we do it socially more than as any Wild swim zealots.

We dont hang around floating though, we would hope to cover 3-4km up and down the beach with and against tides for an hour or so's entertainment. But the area marked by buoys is dead safe if not particularly aesthetic!
Not sure when we are next there, probably fleetingly on 5th Sept or 4th in some sort of day out perhaps. We will swim down the temperature right through to December assuming we can get down there

When we swim, we will usually post under the thread "Anyone for a swim" onthe preceding Friday. hope this helps!

    Hi there,
I understand you swim fairly regularly in the sea in the Hayling Island area? I don't know whether you ever go on the RALSA website, but on the comments page, a lady called Kate Davies is interested in finding like-minded souls to go wild swimming. She lives in the Southsea area, which I believe is not that far away, geographically. I don't know whether you are in a position to help her, but I thought perhaps you might be able to advise her?
    All the best,

    Biography
At the should-know-better stage of life, was sort of good once at breaststroke before accurate timing and pool-length measurement were discovered in Ireland. Still competitive, driven by dangerous mix of guinness, nostalgia and adrenalin.

    Interests
Training, drinking and competing in as many far-off locations as I can escape to. Converted to the open seas in 2005 and have never swum seriously in a pool since, although will always join in a Masters Meet if the company is good!
