British Gas Swimming Championships 2012

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Missed out on Olympics tickets? It doesn’t have to mean you miss out on cheering your favourite GB swimmers in an Olympic setting.

Securing tickets for the British Gas Swimming Championships 2012 (Selection Trials) will place you in the heart of the Olympic Park at the 2,500 capacity Aquatics Centre.

Cheer on the stars of swimming as they battle it out to seal places for the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games and other key competitions.

Ensure you don't miss out on the second best show in Great Britain next year. Register your interest in tickets now to avoid disappointment, and make sure you are first in the queue when they go on sale later in the year.

Where have the other 15,000 seats gone?

Thoughts on the ticket prices? Bargain?

Do you honestly think 17,000 seats would sell for the British Champs... even in the Aquatic Centre?

Curiously, when I clicked on the link to register my interest, my anti-virus software popped up with a warning about phishing from that webpage.....

I have a feeling that tickets will be extensively marketed and we could well see significant interest from the swimming world. I'm sure that there will be loads of competitive swimmer interest from London/South England based clubs who rarely get the chance to see this type of event unless they are personally involved. This event along with most National Age Groups / Youths has invariably been held in the North of England in recent years. It's therefore a great chance for Southern based swimmers and their families to see the elite swimmers of GBR in action, in the Olympic Pool (that no one has tickets for), with some well known/promoted swimmers needing to swim well to fulfil their dreams of making the "Team".

Not sure that 17,500 would be sold for the morning heats but I can see it possibly being very full for Rebecca Adlingtons 800m F/S final (for instance).

I just hope that they do make all the seating available or else what's the point of having it as a test event.

Quite. What else would they be testing? The electronics? The scoreboard? Could do that any time, surely?

I would have thought that the logistics of getting 17,500 people into a venue designed to accommodate 2,500 would be a key thing to be looking out for, if for no other reason than to avoid getting it hideously wrong, live, in front of billions of people.

The access for swimmers to poolside, call rooms and training facilities.
The organisation of volunteers.
The IT systems during real time events.
The positions of cameras.
The timing of parades on and off poolside.
The Public Address systems.
Lighting.
The feed of results to media, websites, etc.
Access to food, water, etc. for swimmers, coaches and officials.
Radio communication around the building.
Communication between officials.

No, can't think of a single thing that needs testing other than how to get spectators in and out of the building.

All of which could - obviously - be tested just as easily with 2,500 spectators as with 17,500, and many of them with no spectators at all. I don't think I imtimated that the examples I quoted were the only things that needed to be tested. Just offering examples.

But..... dealing with the numbers couldn't.

I've not looked at the ASA website. Are the tickets actually on sale or is it just an expression of interest at the moment?

It maybe a good idea to make yourself a deluxe member of the Briitsh Swimming Supporter's Club who have received 2 free day tickets for the British Championships for the past two years as part of their membership deal...
