Absolutely brilliant!
Whilst there is, in my opinion, a whole world of difference beyween swimming while it is raining and doing so in the middle of a thunderstorm, I have actually done so, although not by choice. It was in the North Sea at Bridlington, May 2007. It must be said that when I entered the sea the sun was shining. However, whilst there, the weather took a turn for the worse and, when I saw the first flash of lightning, followed by the first rumble of thunder, I decided that descretion was the better part of valour! By the time I had changed and reached the promenade, the storm had intensified and the rain persisted for the rest of the day and well into the night. I do agree with Wilsswimmer Pete's advice about swimming in a thunderstorm, however, i.e make sure you are not earthed i.e your legs are not touching the floor. Incidentally, many years ago, when I was in the Cubs, we went to an open air event somewhere to the east of London. I cannot remember exactly where or when, it was after all about 50 years ago. However, I do remember that whilst there there was a thunderstorm, and the leaders instructed us to shelter under the trees, which rather worried me, as my father had told me it was very dangerous to be underneath a tree in such circumstances, as lightning might strike the tree bring it down on top of anyone sheltering underneath. |

Sorry, the 'absolutely brilliant' comment on the previous thread refers to Wildswimmer Pete's picture.
