DQ's
DQs - don't we just hate them, but they have their uses in a learning sort of way.
![]() Was reading some results earlier for a meet that I did not attend, and for the DQs, the violations were described - easy peasy then to understand what went wrong...like 'one handed touch' or 'non continuous turning action' .......but Unsportsmanlike conduct - goodness gracious, wonder what that was about ..........in a boys age 10/11 relay at a minimeet ![]() .Any ideas? (PS - anyone there to actually witness it?) |

I was DQ'd many years ago for 'unsportsmanlike conduct'.
It was in a 1500m event. While standing behind the block, my coach told me that he'd hold up a board with a large letter '4' on it when I had 4 lengths to go. He spoke loudly, and the other swimmers heard this instruction. When he held up the board, the swimmers next to me knew 4 lengths of the race were remaining - or so they thought! I had previously agreed with the coach that when there were 6 lengths to go, the signal '4' would be held high. The other swimmers stopped and I carried on for the last 50m. By the time they had realised that their race hadn't actually finished, I had only 25 metres to go. I won the race but was later DQ'd. We laughed for ages about that race. |

But surely when you had 6 to go the others would only have 4 max.?
