Mark, that's fab! Have to say I couldn't be bothered worrying about getting the coms working between ARES (running on a laptop with Windows Vista) and Hytek (running on a laptop with XP) as we always have nightmares, so we decided that simplest is best and plumped for the spreadsheet. Very impressive that you put in the effort to be more precise!
