Age Group Coach / Assistant Head Coach, Haslemere
Due to our current Age Group Coach relocating to a completely different part of the country, we are now advertising for a new Age Group Coach with a view to that person becoming a full-time Assistant Head Coach in the future.
See attached for details. |

Good luck with the recruitment GF.
But I thought Haslemere was a pretty small Club. How are you going to finance two full time positions? I don't even understand how you can finance one unless you have a huge lot of learn to swim and are supported by the local authority or someone else?

It depends on the qualifications, experience and commitment of the successful applicant, and will of course change when the hours change from part-time to full-time. If you're interested, give the guys a ring for a chat, as I don't have all the answers.

It would indeed be the lovely Graham, and he's off up to Scotland. It's been great having him, but we can't top the chance to "go home", as he's always been very fond of the Scots. We are most certainly parting on very good terms and are very sad to see him go, but it was only ever intended to be a short-term arrangement and we're very grateful to him for helping us.
Sorry Linny, I didn't see your post - that explains the long conversation we had last night. HSC is "dahn sahf", and we don't have the same restrictions here as you do up in Scotland. This next bit applies to most clubs down here, not just us. Club fees are considerably higher than the fees you said you charge up there. (I can't believe those fees you mentioned - you wouldn't even get through the door at most sports centres down here for that, let alone be allowed to actually use the facilities in them!) Other sources of income include running several open meets per year, and having a teaching branch which has quite a few children, not all of whom want to progress to competitive swimming but just want to learn to swim and keep fit. Then there are the grants that you can get for specifics like bits of equipment (meaning you can spend the money you would have used for equipment on other expenses). So although we do rely heavily on a volunteer workforce, we are not an exclusively volunteer club and have some paid professional coaching staff at the core of our coaching team, which is what you need if you want to get people to lead the team who want to make coaching their career, rather than a hobby. Being in a swimming club is certainly NOT a cheap way to participate in the sport, well not down South anyway. Hope that clears things up for you. |
