Good to know that they are well organised.

I am thinking of doing the first two (3km/3km) then seeing how I go. This year I was at 1.5 miles by the end of May, so 3km should be a good motivator for next year.

They should offer a bulk discount as I was thinking...hmm, could I do the series...(OK, not really a reason why they should but it would be an incentive for me!).

Jurmala, Latvia, World Winter Swimming Champinships 2012

A preliminary peek at the 50-54 start lists shows two interesting characters in the 50-54 25m br/s:

Serhiy Leonidovich Fesenko (born January 29, 1959) is a former Soviet swimmer and Olympic champion. He competed at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, where he won the gold medal in 200 m butterfly.[1]

VITALY POBORCHIY - big cheese in Murmansk:

thanks for this post Pandi, not for me personally, (this Forum is the nearest I will get to the sea until late summer!) but I passed it on to a mate at our club and she has now entered

I hope you are right with your long-range weather-forecast!

I'm in the Seahorse too. The previous day is the River Arun swim that a number of locals are doing. I've fallen foul of the wetsuits only rule and have, with the utmost dignity, declined the offer from one of the organisers to lend me a wetsuit for the day. So I'll be Champagne and picnic monitor instead - following on from the one we plan to have after the Seahorse...

Another date for the diary- Cork Masters' River Lee Swim on 14th July:

http://www.corkmasters.ie/rapid/inde...d=31&Itemid=42

A grand weekend to be sure

I'm giving it a go, need to get into some chilly water soon if I'm to do 1500 in the sea early May though. I feel the need to support the non-wetsuit option for some odd reason!

I'm also doing the Seahorse swim and the Dorney 10K.

I fancy the Speedo series swim in Poole on 6 May but I am hoping to head over to Dover that weekend.
