You are braver than I am Pete. I struggled with our heated indoor pool today as the poolside and changing rooms were so cold.

2.5C - can do a bit better than that I think.
We had ice sheets on the surface at Tooting last week and today's pic from a friend suggests we can expect 0C or slightly less (due to pool chemicals) tomorrow - bring it on! Sauna to follow, coffee, cakes and rum too. It wont be a long swim - but the race will be on. 33yds handicapped then swim back at leisure....then leg it to the sauna! Too much ice to have enough room for a full race, but we all took turns to rattle out a couple of widths. Official temperature was -1C (yes, chemicals lower the freezing point). Gets warmer from here on

In Finland, where I believe the sauna originated, I understand it is quite usual for those having a sauna to come out, break the ice on and jump in to the water! Rather them than me! I must admit, I have to admire them, for sheer guts! The same goes for those on this forum who regularly swim outdoors during the winter!

Water temp. was surprisingly mild given that some snow is still evident on the hilltops. Water appeared very clear and current about 2-3 mph (guessed!) Wildswimmer Pete

Blustery and cold Northwesterly whipping up quite a chop. River muddy but flowing at its normal rate - about 1-2mph. Wildswimmer Pete

The days certainly seem very mild for February and, according to the newspaper, we are going to have a very warm spell during March. I wonder whether this means we can expect a decent summer, for a change?
