I didnt see this post Zanshin. It does look quite interesting doesnt it.

Bit of competition for the timex iron man at last. Not too badly prices.

I think when my current timex ironman gives up the ghost i might try it.

I do stroke count mentally anyway for all strokes.

I wonder if it has the same countdown features of the timx ironman too.

Anybody tried one of these?

Yes, not too sure on this, not a swimmer and the script was american - laps and not lengths. Interestingly calm voice though.

I've had one of these since February time [so almost 6 months], used it to train for the swimathon and have found it very useful, I bought [before hand] an underwater MP3 player and was unable to count laps once the music started so the poolmate was ideal. You can programme in the length of the pool you're training in, and from this it works out the laps done, total in metres, average strokes per length, calories burnt -plus more and it stores it into a log for you to review your training sessions. You can also pause it if you decide to have a rest.

I think some people have had issues with the watch counting the laps mainly due to lane turning - if your turn isn't 'different' enough in terms of rhythm the watch can't pick up on the change. So you need to make sure you have a good stretch/glide at the beginning of each length - which most people do anyway.

I don't have any complaints against it, haven't used any other such gadgets for the pool like this so can't comment on how it compares but it does exactly what it says on the tin and without issue.

I fancy one too. Pity it's missing a thermometer for now am sticking with my timex tide tracker it's prob not 100% accurate but so long as I only use one device I get a good comparison for my records.

I want one like James Bond's with the electro magnet. Then stick a bit of iron in the block.

I hadn't heard of this before. It sounds okay, but could really do with letting you download the data to a PC. If it did that, it could do for swimming what a power meter and WKO+ do for cycling, completely automated recording of all your training sessions.

I was going to say I've looked at the manual on their website and can't see any mention of it, but have just spotted this bit:

Q Will the Pool-Mate upload data to a PC?
A We are working on the Pool-Mate Pro which will interface to a PC and automatically upload all data to a PC. This will be available in summer 2010. Existing users will be able to upgrade their watches to the Pro version for a nominal charge. Keep checking the website for details.

So it looks like there is a forthcoming model that will have that ability, which might be what you meant, though I read what you wrote as meaning that there is already a new model with that capability.

Anyone have one of these and had problems with its accuracy counting laps?
I've had one for a couple of months and it's been fine till recently and now it adds laps erratically. I can't find the receipt for it annoyingly so cant return it.

I've done what they've suggested, adding an extra bit of glide at the end of laps, worn it on the other wrist but its still unreliable. Any ideas anyone?

I am thinking of buying one of these to replace the fogged up new Speedo watch I bought (and an old one I found on the drawer is similarly now fogging up - it isn't Speedo by the way!).

Anyone have any thoughts to add to the thread before I spend yet more money?
