Water temp is still a bit low for the time of the year - should be 20 - 21C. Water is only slightly turbid, while the current is very sluggish. Wildswimmer Pete

King Lear's Lake, Saturday morning. 17.2C.
I thought I'd gotten less used to cool water, but 17.2 seemed absolutely fine.

20C yesterday at King Lear's too. Colder in the shadows, warmer in the sun. A nice swim.

Two sea swims over the past two weeks with similar official temperatures, but very different perceived temperatures. At Scarborough last weekend, the official temperature was 15C, but the lifeguard who told me this said that she'd been in and said it felt colder. I found it quite cold and my face and head never acclimatised. Today I swam at Brighton. Official sea temperature was 16.4C, but it felt comfortably warm. I was wearing a "Reed Chillcheater" balaclava, but the water felt very much warmer. I wonder if this is due to inaccurate official temperatures, or just my body reacting differently at different times.

Scarborough is rarely 15c, last summer it got to a max of 13/14 after a sunny spell.
I have lots of temperatures I've swam in so I wont list them all, I'll just go from both ends - 8c in the river at Wetherby (April) to 24c in the Ionian Greece (July), probably swam at most temperatures in between these two at various spots around the U.K!

Looks like the temperatures are beginning to drop now, after our 'wonderful summer'.

I've been away for a bit.
Temperature at King Lear's lake stayed up about 17C or so for a long while. But last Saturday it was 15C. There have been worse summers in the last few years.

Water clear but brisk current, several miles further upstream the river was described as needing caution when navigating. Wildswimmer Pete
