6.0C at King Lear's Lake this morning. I managed to swim the furthest I've ever swum during winter without a wetsuit, but that isn't saying much. And on the way back I found I had to swim backstroke a bit.

It was a mild 10C in the sea here on New Year's Day. Was in for 40 minutes, only swam 1k and body surfed for the rest of the time. Recent storms had scoured the sand away, leaving loads of rocks exposed, so three of us ended up with war wounds. Occupational hazard!

Newquay and St ives last week

Just got back from a working week in Newquay and St ives, weather not bad, my cousin was with me and we swam twice most days (no wetsuit) Town beach and Porth beach in Newquay and the harbour and i think Porthmeor at st ives. a local swimmer told us the water was approx 11deg c, seemed warmer to me. the sun was quite warm away from the breeze.

Jealous!!! I love Porth Beach AND St Ives! Couldn't have done the 'no wetsuit' bit though

First "cold" dip of the year:
River Weaver, Frodsham, Cheshire 30-4-13: 14.5C

Yes - I took two readings in case I'd mis-read the thermometer the first time.

14.5C? Higher than I would have expected.

I'll be sort of swimming at King Lear's Lake tomorrow. I wonder what the temperature will be there.

So did I - I was wearing my winter kit as I expected 8-9C. I used my pukka spirit swimming pool thermo so no chance of any error.

Hopefully you'll experience at least 10C or even higher.

King Lear's Lake on Wednesday. 14.5C

Given the weather we're having now, it'll be higher tomorrow morning, but I think we have a family outing tomorrow. Back at the lake next Wednesday. And the River Biam might get a visit soon.

And after the last few sunny days, King Lear's Lake actually got colder! 13.8C this morning. Not quite sure how that happened. Still waiting for my first non-wetsuit swim of the year (apart from New Year's Day).

Same here. I would have gone to Olney, For a swim in the Great ouse yesterday, but that was not practical due to the wonderful public transport 'service' provided on bank holidays.
