Actually now I think about it..............Chas and Dave could have done a turn. I see Chas at least once a week in our Sainsburys.

Was it though? I didn't get that sense at all. The staging was certainly very London-centric with the taxis and the landmarks, but Emeli Sande is Scottish, Kaiser Chiefs are from Leeds, half the Spice Girls are from oop north, Take That are from all over the place, Freddie Mercury was born in Zanzibar, Muse are from Devon, Elbow are from Manchester (ish), Russell Brand is from an entirely different planet, etc etc

Having said that, I do agree that it was odd for Kaiser Chiefs to be singing a Who song when The Who were coming along later anyway. But I suppose "I Predict a Riot" wouldn't have set the right tone.

Also somewhat disappointed not to see more representation from Northern Ireland. Snow Patrol are mostly from that part of the world and would have upped the quality threshold a lot more than Russell Brand was ever going to be capable of.

Van Morrison would have been in line with the dinosaur parade - and much better. Anyway, as it was Team GB, why would we have had any need for NI representation. (there is angst in Norn Iron political circles about choice of name, Team UK would be their preferred name....).

3 NI rowers were in GB medal-winning teams, one cyclist threw her toys out of the Team Sprint when not chosen, but apart from that I think any other NI athletes represented Ireland in line with their respective Governing Body affiliations.

Come on you only need to look at the list to see the Theme?

Emeli Sandι – "Read All About It Obviously relating to Fleet Street
Julian Lloyd Webber featuring London Symphony Orchestra – "Salut d'Amour"
Madness featuring the Hackney Colliery Band' – "Our House"
Massed Bands of the Guards Division – "Parklife"
Pet Shop Boys – "West End Girls"[5]
One Direction – "What Makes You Beautiful" Obviously relating to all the one way roads in London
Ray Davies – "Waterloo Sunset"
Queen – "Bohemian Rhapsody" The Queen lives in London
Russell Brand[5] featuring the London Symphony Orchestra – "Pure Imagination"
Jessie J – "Price Tag" Obviously relating to all the shops in London

It's all just to obvious

Snow Patrol had already featured at the Opening Ceremony Concert in Hyde Park where representatives from the four Home Countries played.

That's reminded me, watching it in France, the next day the news commentators whilst largey complimentary, one did manage to quip, the equivalent of "the Queen stayed at home in her castle". They also did often like to show after the Opening Ceremony a clip of her looking like she'd rather have been at home.

"Pure Imagination - Jessie J - 'Price Tag' "
So, how much would Jessie J cost?
Just for the night, obviously.
