The pool is now fully open for the 10:30 to 18:30 sessions for the rest of the season - no closed half, no lane ropes. Over two thousand visited today. It's not too late to buy a season ticket and beat the queues on busy days.

It's been a really busy weekend at the Lido as we'd expect with this weather.

So glad that Freedom Leisure will have seen early in the season what a busy place the Lido can be as up till now they might have been forgiven for wondering what the heck they'd taken on as the pool stayed practically empty most of May apart from the usual stalwart supporters.

But we had the whole pool open, no halving, well ahead of their planned day too. Last weekend's early session was the whole pool, even for a relatively small number of swimmers.

Good news for those of us who support the place and are positive about its future.

I visited yesterday for the first time. It was packed, as you said, just what you'd expect in this weather.

I only managed to play swim and took the little one in, but it is such a beautiful place, the grounds are gorgeous.

Weldone to the lifeguards, that must be very stressful on a day like yesterday. I think i saw between 6-8 lifeguards on duty at all times.

If you've never visited Guildford Lido, this is what you're missing.
Can you see any Swimclubbers in it?

Free Lido swim in aid of homeless charity ! On Thursday morning (23rd August) a swim is taking place between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. in aid of the local charity "Guildford Action." Swimmers are invited to join in at any time during this period, and all those taking part in this event will get in free (whether doing 5, 10, or more lengths.) The touching story behind the campaign can be found at: http://www.getsurrey.co.uk/news/s/21...ar_town_centre or on Page 3 of the current Surrey Advertiser.

More details about Guildford Action are on their website http://www.surreycommunity.info/guildfordaction/ Donations can also be made at the Lido on the 23rd, and further details will appear in the Surrey Advertiser on the 24th.

The Mayor and the press will attend at 9 a.m. Management at the Lido would like an idea of likely numbers, so if you hope to participate, please email angie.doyle AT freedom-leisure.co.uk Please share with any friends who might wish to donate or join in.

I attach a picture of the official poster (which is on display at the Lido.)

Just realised my avatar is out of date, thanks to Freedom Leisure.

The Guildford Dragon NEWS features Thursday's early "swim in" at Guildford Lido in support of the local charity for the homeless: http://www.guildford-dragon.com/2012...ldford-action/

If you can, please swim with us, make a donation, tell your friends and colleagues (or any combination of the above.)

This morning's swimmers collectively did 1801 lengths (90 km, almost 56 miles.) The Channel is about 34 km, so the target was well exceeded. Well done all concerned ! Details of how to donate to the Registered Charity Guildford Action can be found at: http://www.surreycommunity.info/guil...n/donate-here/

Today (Thursday 30th August) is the last evening lane swim of 2012 due to darkening evenings, and will end around 20:20. Early morning lane swimming will continue as normal until the season's last day (Sunday 16th September.)

Guildford Lido is now closed until the 80th season starts in late April 2013.

The regulars wish to thank the staff for making the 2012 season so enjoyable.

Hear hear! The weather wasn't kind, but the new operators have made a difference in my view. I dont think anyone will have got as much value as thy goodself Goldeneye for their season ticket - and why not, its a great place to swim.

Here's to next season when this amazing pool is 80 next June!

Oops ! Our beloved Lido is actually going to re-open at 07:30 on WEDNESDAY 1st May, and the season is going to be three days longer this year as the last day isn't until Sunday 22nd September.

There isn't the usual opening day ceremony this year as instead there will be a party on 21st June to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Lido's opening in 1933.

Please note that the season ticket now includes ALL of the early morning lane-swimming sessions, and there is a new, earlier start time of 06:30 on Mondays.
http://www.guildfordspectrum.co.uk/c.../view/431/307/

This makes a season-ticket even better value than usual. Moreover, if you are 50 or over but not yet "senior" you can buy one even more cheaply by joining Spectrum's "Primetime" club. http://www.guildfordspectrum.co.uk/i...mar_14_web.pdf

New slides at Guildford Lido

There's an article today about the new slides that are about to be built to attract younger visitors to the Lido.

THE construction of three new slides at the Guildford Lido at a cost of £500,000 has been delayed until early May.

I'd love to be supplying slides at £166666 pounds per slide......great business if you can get it. Now if they were to fit 3 slides from Homebase for about 100 quid each and use the rest to update all the changing rooms, lane ropes and so on that would be an amazing piece of planning - dream on! Good job we have exorbitant Council Tax rates round here

Great news! Unfortunately, I live a fair distance from Guildford, but shall try and get down for this.

And the not-so-young! I love slides, so this is another reason to visit! Aldershot Lido, not a million miles away from Guildford, also used to have some great slides, as did many other lidos, and used to market themselves as 'The Finest in the South', although I don't know whether they still do, or whether their claim is justified. What I do know, is the more lidos the better!
And, let us hope for a decent summer, weatherwise!
