Ryan Lochte 48.1
I have just heard some deck-side news that Ryan Lochte has just gone 48.1 in training (okay call it a trial).
The electronic timing was out and he wanted to see how fast he could go. Rowdy Gaines (triple Olympic gold medallist) passed on that snippet. He was wearing jammers for suit aficionados. He will be on fire in Rome. I think he's one of the world's best, but most under-rated swimmer (possibly a very close second to Phelps).

That depends on how often you rank yourself.

suit/jammers
Dunc
Given your name by Alan Brown & Rowson as someone in the know at the Halton meet on Sat 5th Sep. Read your piece on Lochte's time in jammers with interest. Personally I'm a bit gutted that the LZRs will be banned mainly because I just enjoy swimming in it so much - nevermind the times. Heard that there may be an exemption for Masters swimmers which got my hopes up. Isn't Masters swimming about enjoying ourselves & perhaps not taking other things so seriously. This ban feels like a bit of an over-reaction to just one more tech advance in the shape of the Jaked suit when suits have been worn with impunity for so long. Are Kevlar bikes to be banned for cycling championships, etc, etc? And don't they make it a better spectator sport - something swimming is sorely in need of? Do you have any insights / opinions please? Dave Rees |

Would it be easier to PM or email you?
The suits are not banned for masters, unless Cornel Marculescu (the Executive Director of FINA) has been telling me porkies. That means all suits that were valid this year or earlier (but not wetsuits). There are some interesting (and sometimes wrong headed) debates about this on both this and the USMS forum.
