World Masters 2012 - Riccione (again!)

No one's bitten at my throw away comment about this, but does anyone care that we've been here 2 x before once for the Europeans and once for the Worlds? and it looks like we're there again the year after next.

I noticed, but we've only done once and Dave thinks it's a nice beach for Toby - more pressing is where (and when) 2011 will be...............

I went to Riccione for Worlds and wasn't too impressed with the organisation or the weather. Do you think they could fix both this time?

I was at the Worlds in Riccione too. I thought it was just about okay, but really not brilliant. In my opinion Stanford, Stockholm and Perth were all well ahead and so I hope they raise the standard next time around.

Fortunately my parents only live about an hour away (if you drive like an Italian) so at least it's convenient for me.

Shame that they're following Sweden with another European country - I was hoping for South America or Asia.

I quite liked Riccione, I haven't been there for the Europeans. That's where the Pooh hat came from. Weren't they about to demolish one of the pools last time.

The Fina officials were definitely suffering last time. The Italian officials had a Union that prevented them from working for more than around 3 hours, but I know one of the UK Fina officials who was working for 10 hours, he was even given a lunch bag so he wouldn't need to leave the poolside to eat.

Do I discern a comeback in the offing or have you never really been away?

a bit of both, my old school chum - I did drift away from swimming to explore the temptations of wine, men and song

the wine was OK, the men were disappointing, but the music was good - got to see Muse twice, REM also twice, Editors, Crosby Stills and Nash, Procul Harum (or however they spell it) KT Tunstall, Amy Macdonald and a brilliant young Irish lad who calls himself Duke Special, as well as many excellent tribute acts like Whole Lotta Led, Nearly Dan and Stipe

the other thing that took up a fair bit of my time was my lovely lurcher Charlie, but sadly he died suddenly just before Christmas

so now I think it's time to get back to the pool....

I suppose it highlights the shortage of venues with two 50m pools in close proximity - even Gothenburg is struggling to get theirs even reasonably close.

Managed a pb in Riccione 2004 - wife went down with a gut bug for the whole week - so mixed memories. Top of my age group in 2012 so probably wont go anyway

BUT 3 times in Riccione?? - hope its the last for a few years anyway

Would it make a big difference if one of the 50m pools were indoor and the other outdoor? If not, then there's always the San Hugo pool complex in Majorca.
