Wow. I don't enter events with that many swimmers. Glad you are nervous too and it's not just me.

In one event I am swimming in the same heat as a former Olympic champion (although she wasn't the Olympic champion in that event). I'm really looking forward to it. It's my second opportunity at a masters event to swim against someone of that calibre.

Looks like it's 26-30 and generally sunny. Last time there were a few cold, rainy days so I'm hoping it will be better this time.

Dont worry about them! Sergey Fesenko ducked out of racing me over 50 free in Latvia earlier this year. You'll be fine, you're the one at your peak now. Best of luck to you and all out there.

Im flying out tomorrow. My first holiday since I was made redundant in 2010. IM really looking forward to it, a holiday with some swimming, sun, nice hotel, the euros (come on Ireland!), lots of pizza and beer and hopefully one or 2 PBs in the pool!
Have a great time everybody!

Yep. Seriously busy!!!

Have had one (poor) race with 3 to go but just my luck to come down with a nasty throat infection the day we arrived. Not helping breathing at all but is stopping me talking as I can't actually talk....

Well there's a thing. I pulled out of 50 fly due to this nasty infection but the results show me having swum (with a rubbish time) rather than DNS!! Anyone know why????

Well, back home in cold and rainy UK...what a contrast to the lovely weather in Riccione

The best way I can sum up my first Worlds is...a bit of a disaster. I'm really frustrated at the pure timing of a throat infection and having to be put on a course of antibiotics by the meet medic, which resulted in rubbish swims, apart from my 50 free, which was ok but a second slower than I did at the GBs last month.

However, my own illness isn't the only reason for my assessment of the meet. FINA can't fail to notice the sheer number of swimmers (and I have to say, the majority of them were from the host nation) who ended up with NO TIME (NT) against their names. In other words, they entered a time within the qualifying time, with no hope or intention perhaps of making that time and thus resulted in some events vastly over-running as people waited for them to finish. I'm told the Men's 50 fly finished around 11pm or so as a result. In some heats of some events, there were literally 100s of them with NT. Have a look at the results...I think FINA should. Perhaps they were encouraged to enter as it was on their home turf and, of course, FINA will be happy to take their entry fees but there really should be lessons learned. I know the guys on the Montreal 2014 stand said they'd taken those comments "on board" for their hosting.

Anyway, I can say I've been and I've done the Worlds and can wish that I had done better but that's life. All the prep and training can't help when you're floored by those nasty bug things!!!

Well done to those who swam well.

verity quoted on another website This meet is mental........The men's 50 fly on Tuesday finished at 12:10 Wednesday morning then the 50 free started at 7:30 am...... Talk about endurance swimming."

perhaps some of the no shows were because of the over run?
