Lighthouse Cove.

I am appalled at the decision by the new owner of Lighthouse Cove, on the River Dart, to close this beach to the public, although there has been public access for over 100 years. This must be very strongly opposed as, apart from anything else, if this is allowed to happen, other owners may be encouraged to take a similar approach. This needs nipping in the bud as soon as possible!

Bear in mind that there may be public rights of access - landowners (especially new landowners) sometimes need reminding of the law.

Just checked - the property is on the coast and as far I know the public cannot be excluded from any sea beach anywere in the UK.

Regardless of that, the beach between mean high and low tide is Crown property and open to the public.

It looks like legal things are in progress:

Quote:
Access to Lighthouse Beach has been closed by the new owner so the Kingswear Parish Council has had to

applied to register Lighthouse Beach under the Commons Act 2006 in order to re-establish Lighthouse Beach as

a public space. An application has been accepted and pre-inquiry meeting has been set for Wednesday

11th July with the full public inquiry to follow on the 13th to 16th November.
