hairy beast

This is probably a really silly question but if any of you have had experience then please share...

My son is off to national age groups this year he's 13 and pretty hairy, well legs and arms are at least as hairy as a grown mans so whats the general consensus on shaving for major comps ?

He will be at a pre-nationals camp with his squad where I suspect these hairy issues may be covered but I don't want him to stand out as the only one not shaved or even the only one shaved...

I read a book that stated that shaving down should begin when they are old enough to get a proper (£70+) racing suit.

Personally, I'd leave it up to him. That way even if it is a wrong decision, at least it is his own wrong decision.

This reminds me of my brother.... he used to cycle for a club and I remember being about 7 years old and my mum and dad making a big fuss about his red raw legs after he'd pumice stoned the hairs off them ! Ooooooooo.

It's more about the feel of the shaving. The prep will make him feel more ready to compete so I would go for it. Buy good razors and foam though!!

Thanks all, we are shaving... Well, he is.

What's the best method ? Good old fashioned foam and razors or some kind of electronic device, he is very accident prone so i'll have A&E primed for a blood transplant ;-)

As he is inexperienced, get the Wilkinson Protector 3d or Lady Protector+ with a sensitive shaving gel. A bit of body moisturiser wouldn't go amiss either.

As his skin toughens up, he will find his own preferences.

If he's very hairy might want to use clippers first! Ladies razors all the way here.

Thanks for all the advice, any opinions on depilatory creams or is this just opening him up to peer derision, ie. not hard enough to shave and don't be a girl ;-)
