Hood Park Lido opening again this year

Good to hear this:

Quote:
The only outdoor swimming pool in the county is set to open for its summer season early next month.

Hood Park leisure centre's open-air pool, at Ashby, is due to open on Saturday, June 2.

The old-fashioned lido, in North Street, will be open every day during the June half-term holidays, from 9am until 6pm.

To mark the opening, admission will cost just £1 all day – while there will be the added bonus of a pool- side disco and barbecue from noon.

It is also available to hire every night from 6.15pm for private parties, barbecues and discos.

The lido is the county's last public open-air pool and has been a summer favourite since 1931.

Councillor Alison Smith, deputy leader of North West Leicestershire District Council, said: "The outdoor pool is a highlight of the summer for many of our customers and we're all looking forward to its reopening.

"All we need now is for the sun to shine so that local people can enjoy its unique atmosphere as they have done in previous years."

A couple of years ago it started looking like the council might want to close it. But fortunately things look much more promising now.

The 'only' publically owned lido? Surely, there are others still being run by local authorities?

The story mentions a 3.30pm opening time - seems very late in the day when the weather is so good??

I had a look online, but the opening time information for Hood Park Leisure Centre doesn't distinguish between the indoor pool and the lido. So, I'm equally mystified.

This is just the kind of thing that drives people mad when they are trying to access a swim and contributes to decisions not to bother!

Perhaps the council think that no-one will want to swim until all the school kids are out, whereas in fact the reverse is likely to be true and adults would welcome a quieter swim in this beautiful weather.

Because my search led me to a different page which was much less informative. Thanks for that Pandi.
