National Championships 2012

Although the first trials got TV/Radio coverage are we to assume that this week in Sheffield will only be covered online (no radio, no TV?):

and

Still some Olympic places up for grabs as summarised by Pullbuoy:

What a great swim from David Carry. I assume that means he will get a 400 free place.

Yes, certainly seemed so with the cheers that went up. Watching the race and David carry's win, it brought to life what it means for someone to win an olympic spot and a fantastic swim to watch.

Looks like we have at least one qualifier for the 200 Back:
Chris Walker-Hebborn in 1:57.17 (FINA A = 1:58.48)

Does Marco Loughran miss out? He swam 1:58.34 inside the FINA A time, but not faster than the FINA top 16 time of 1:58.18.

So the FINA Top 16 for 2nd place was only relevant at "the Trials", the selection policy stating:
Quote:
Nominations for any remaining individual event places will be made following the British Gas ASA Nationals (subject to 3.5). Remaining place(s) will be filled by the fastest „available‟ swimmer(s) achieving the FINA A qualification standard from times identified in 1.5.1 or 1.5.2:
1.5.1 Times recorded in the final of the relevant event at the British Gas ASA Nationals 2012.
1.5.2 Times recorded in the final of the relevant event at the „Trials‟ by swimmers who have already qualified at the „Trials‟ in the relay or another individual event.

Yes, the top 16 only applied first time round - I (tried) to explain it here:

Another Surrey Swimmer (Owen Morgan) is 4th fastest (22.99) through to tonight's Mens 50m Free final. FINA A time to beat is 22.11 with nobody qualified to date!

We'll be cheering for you Owen!

The men's A 50 free standard seems particularly fast this time.

I'm pretty sure the FINA a times were world number 20 from last year (at the time they set them) - must have been a fast year last year!

Nobody hits the required 22.11 for the Mens 50m. Tough sport!
