llyn idwal

Hi

Back again following Great North Swim 1 mile and Blithefield Reservoir Swim 1 mile for British Heart Foundation. Haven't done anymore wild swims yet but have been spending a lot of time walking and climbing in Snowdonia and some of the lakes look great places to take a dip. Just wonderered if anyone has done any swimming in llyn idwal or any other lakes there. Is there anything I might need to know about these lakes with regards to swimming. Thanks to previous replies to last post, all advice greatly appreciated, the Great North was my first venture into outdoor swimming and I have to say that all went well and was pleased with my performance. Overall place 399 breaststroke. Thanks again.

I have done Llyn Llydaw and Llyn Gwynant. I had a qualified life guard with me at Llyn Llydaw, but she said she wasn't going in, too cold

I was considering llyn llydaw myself. Looks like a good stretch of clear water with small beach like area for getting in and out. Haven't looked at llyn gwynant but will check it out. Took a dip in llynnau mymbyr last week, water was good. Handy that, having that lifeguard!

All of the lakes mentioned above are regularly swam in by various open water swimmers. There are no specific hazards apart from what you would normally expect in open water.

This website is a reasonably useful resource for swimming locations - http://wildswim.com/

The other very good book is Rob Fryers Wild Swimming guide - available here - http://www.wild-swimming.com/
and a review of it here - http://www.goneswimming.co.uk/swimmi...ing-guide.html

Hope that helps,
Dan
