Port Talbot People against Inferior Rebuild of Afan Lido

New Facebook group to support:

Port Talbot People against Inferior Rebuild of Afan Lido

http://www.facebook.com/groups/porttalbotlido/

In recent weeks there has been a spate of publicity about the rebuilding plans for the Afan Lido which burnt down in December 2009

Local people are furious with the proposals from the Council and are campaigning with all their might to urge a rethink.

Major fire at Afan Lido Dec 2009

I started a thread on the Afan Lido pool in December 2009 when the fire first happened.

Campaigners are fighting hard to get Port Neath Talbot Council to go back to the drawing board on their plans to replace the Afan Lido which burnt down in 2009:

Afan Lido campaigners will be meeting tomorrow to continue their high profile fight against the council's proposals to provide what they regard as an inferior rebuild of the pool that burnt down two and a half years ago.

The Port Talbot Magnet has flagged up the meeting at the Four Winds tomorrow night: Tuesday 10th July 2012

The Facebook group, Port Talbot people against inferior rebuild of Afan Lido now has over 3000 members:

and their petition is also garnering a lot of support.

Do you actually think you will get 3,000 users of an outdoor swimming pool in this vicinity?

Or do they just have some sort of attitude problem?

Hi Slid - the Afan Lido was an indoor facility before the fire and will be again. I know the term "lido" usually describes an outdoor pool but this one has always been roofed. The campaigners want an eight lane pool which can be used flexibly rather than the six lane pool (the council plan) which they feel will be inadequate from the start to meet local demand.

Have a look at their Facebook page or contact Gary Owen directly for further details.

OK Broomie,

And good luck with this one.
Getting any Council to find money for such a project might be difficult at the present time.

But they can always find millions for new offices or executive jollies and perks!

Finally time to remove this site from my Favouties List.
Too much like Mumsnet.
And too much wanked out idealology wrapped up in self pity
