For the first time since this website came online someone is beating us. We can't have that! We can't have the sweaties beating us. (no offence intended you guys up there)Us southerners need to get talking.
How about our region getting 50m pools? I heard they are planning one in Uxbridge. Any info? The one in Aldershot does not have any spectator facilities. What's going on there? It is us tax payers funding it and the army charging £25+ per lane per hour. Clubs down here are deprived of pooltime by high costs and poor facilities along with, in the main anti-social hours to train (later than 9.00pm). What good is that to young age groupers? Right! I fuelled the fire, start viewing your opinions. ------------------ Looking forward to hearing from fellow coaches and keen swimmers needing help. |

I hear there is a plan for a new 50m pool in Portsmouth - whether it will ever happen is a moot point! There have been several plans in the past which never bore fruit.
However you are exactly right about pool time - its hard to get pool management/local councils to look at the big picture - at my old club they tried to get an extra evening session because the pool was virtually empty at that time, but the council vetoed it because the facilty 'had to be available to the public' even though they weren't taking advantage of it. I used to lifeguard there and watching 12 people in a 8 lane 25m pool, when there could have been, even for half the pool, a training session going on just really wound me up (and still does )------------------ http://www.pullbuoy.co.uk the UK swimming site [This message has been edited by Steve Buckley (edited 21 June 2001).] |

Whereas those of us in the North East are so dedicated and enthusiastic that we spend so much time in the water we don't have time to post anything here.
Except me, cause the going got tough, and I got out! Wow, I'm an Olympic champion!!! [This message has been edited by BigFish (edited 21 June 2001).] |

Not through choice though. I'm afraid I suffer an allergic reaction to swimming more than 3 times per week (honestly, I'm not joking)

How many swimmers read and contribute to this site? We coaches are here for them. At least 6 of my swimmers contribute to this site. How many of yours do?
