Wholesale Suppliers

I'm currently trying to set up a business selling competitive racing swimwear and accessories. I'm having problems finding wholesale suppliers / distributors. Maru won't supply me because I haven't got a retail premises. I intend to sell via the internet, mail order and by setting up a swim shop at various gala venues. Can anyone help ?

You won’t have any problems with Zoggs or Tyr, Speedo might be a bit of a problem I had the same problem with them and Maru because I had know retail premises.

Luckily the main part of my business was going to be my Local Clubs and the AOE Hire

Only place to get Speedo and Maru from would be World of Service and JPL

If you want any details for anyone let me know If club's want cheap swimwear they can deal straight with Tyr there brilliant at dealing with Clubs only problem is you have to order a large amount from them if you have something custom made like my Local Club does.

Try these. Some may have moved on, but you will get a response from somebody. The PR companies are worth a try but they may have been dropped by the swimwear company. This happens regularly!

Make Woodchester your first call. Some known swimwear in the UK is sold under its brand name - but is actually made by Woodchester. (I have no involvement with Woodchester at all).

_______________

WOODCHESTER - James Burdall - 0121-355 8668 (By far your best bet)
If James is not available ask for Julie.

NIKE - Agent: John Berelowitz - 07768 838 166

TYR - Len Burdell - 07740 639 243
Agency: Apples & Pears - 0115 925 5999

SWIMRITE - Andy Gallop - 01384 898 204

ZOGGS - Kim Blondell (Man Dir) - 01276 855 880
PR company - Derek Aisles - 01763 838 222

MARU - Roger Allen (Man Dir) - 0115 985 1212
MARU PR company: Liz Talbot - 01772 785858 (Better to make contact with Liz for MARU products)

DIANA - Ian Pragnell (3S Swimwear) 01604 646611

ADIDAS - Agency: Leagus Delaney (again, may have changed) 0207 836 4455

SPEEDO - I have several contacts at Speedo: Joe Fields, (President, Speedo International), Marketing Manager, Company Sec, Advertising Exec, PR company etc. etc. etc. but I have always found it terribly difficult to get through, and even more difficult to get someone to make a decision.

I did think that some numbers may have been changed. Thanks for the new number.

I think you'll have to go a lot closer to the south coast to be half way between Sutton and Guernsey. You may find you even have to be in the sea. I'm sure Wildswimmer would welcome you...

According to the AA (and travelling via the Weymouth Ferry Terminal) we would probably be meeting somewhere near Wimborne Minster on the A31 ...... I'll stand by the side of the road with a banner!

(and yes, I'm not very busy this morning!)

I only mentioned Guildford because I have a lot of friends in that area. I thought we could all enjoy a drink together.

I've used all of them in the past, as a swimmer and also when ordering kit for the club. Some have proved to be better than others in terms of service and quality of product. This is the same for all companies, I suppose, whatever they make or sell.

I've been given lots of swimsuits as 'freebies' to try out. One particular make sucked in water as soon as I dived in. The swimwear company didn't like it when I pointed it out to their design team. They had spent a lot of money on reasearch, and now they refuse to speak to me! (I won't name them)

A couple of makes lasted very well and took several months, while wearing them every day in training, before the chlorine started to destroy them.

If you want bodysuits then, in my opinion, there is only one worth having. I stress, this is my opinion - others may disagree. I'll PM you with more details, and the contact.

(Sorry to be so vague but some swimsuits showing different logos are made by the same manufacturer, using Lycra from the same roll - I can't possibly name them openly)

To Juicy Lucy - Thanks for all of your info.

Len at TYR has been a great help. As have the people at Diana.

We're making progress at the moment, will definately try some of the other contacts.

Would love to get Speedo on board, but not having any joy at present.
