I will be wearing dark glasses (for disguise), and a very heavy coat as I'm sure I'm in for a very frosty reception

I'm sure it wouldn't be the '95 born Marcus that swims for Guildford!

Nah- he wasn't there @ Speedo on Sunday. Have you noticed though that he hasn't been on here since he got his little wooden spoon out?

It has been pointed out to me that I may be singing our praises too loudly and upsetting people.
This wasn't my intention, and I apologise to any innocent parties if I caused offence. It has also been pointed out that a certain professional distance from my comments on here would be maintained. I must make it clear that any comments and opinions I post are my own and not necessarily those of Guildford City SC. My apology doesn't extend to the individuals that ridicule Guildford City SC both on and off this forum. IT IS YOU WHO SHOULD BE APOLOGISING TO US. Those people know who they are I will not 'name names' or be drawn into exchanging insults. Others have done a fantastic job of defending our club so far, but there are more of us ready to come on here and help out if it doesn't stop (not an ideal reason for new members to be registering). P.S. Big thanks to H2o for arranging our accommodation, another parent not taking the easy route of going to the nearest club but taking the conscientious one of going to the best one, an example to you all. |

Mmmmmmmmmmm me thinks someone is a little sensitive. I joined in the 'how many miles from Guildford' stuff as it was amusing!!!!! I hadn't realised it was such a heinous crime! Sorry to see that there is a lighter side to life! I don't see how anyone could possibly construe this as ridiculing GCSC! I am full of admiration for good swimming WHATEVER club the swimmer is from. My older daughter (no longer swimming) swam at Speedo League against Guildford a few years back and I was thrilled at the quality of the swimming. If I lived in your neck of the woods, Guildford would probably be my club of choice, if my daughter were considered good enough. Lighten up MarcusGW, whoever you are.

I’ve heard that Guildford are having an open day with the aim of attracting swimmers. I bet there won’t be a rush for the door now. Well, not to join, anyway! Who’d have thought that a topic entitled Speedo League Winners would turn out to be the best thread for ages. JL |

The way MarcusGW writes is pretty consistent with a 12 year old boy (as suggested by taxiandbank) and if that is what he is then perhaps we should leave him well alone and just nod nicely when he goes off on one. Isn't that right Marcus?

Isn't that right Marcus? [IMG] I fear that the content of Marcus' posts suggests that he is a parent of a swimmer at Guildford. It is pretty unlikely that someone would write what he does (and feel so strongly about posters stating their distance from Guildford) if he had no association with Guildford or the swimming club. It is equally unlikely that people such as Ruth and H2O would be unaware of who Marcus actually is if he was a swimmer at the club. Marcus' posts also suggest that he is unaware that although swimming is a competitive sport individually and that swimmers are also members of clubs that compete against each other in competitions such as the Speedo League, Corinthian and Olympic sporting values are still respected and maintained by a very large majority of swimmers, coaches and officials involved in the sport. This means that everyones achievements are recognised and respected and there is no place for triumphalism no matter how good you are, or you perceive yourself to be. |

What a tremendous shame that a positive thread that was meant to congratulate ALL who took part in such a memorable event has been hijacked and turned so negative.

Quite right Linny. I was being facetious. You don't miss much.
I've noticed that you, more than most, are always very careful in your choice of words when posting. You wrote... You slipped in the word 'some'. I'm tempted to ask why you didn't say 'many'? JL |

Have you never had a conversation at a swimming gala with someone where it started off talking about swimming and ended up about the new car you've just bought or talking about how great you club is and ending up talking about you cut your grass for the first time last weekend, it's not hijacking it's called open conversation. Anyway getting back on track, I thought Marcus's comments were quite grown up and once getting past the hysteria made good reading which now does lead me away from thinking he is from Guildford.
