The red rubber band. Urban myth?

Apparently, according to my next door neighbour, the red rubber bands that postmen leave strewn around our green and pleasant land are biodegradable! Has anyone else heard this? I think it’s b0ll0ck5

Do you know, it's such a relief to know that they are being dropped outside your door too.

I thought my postman had somehow heard of my 'little complaint' and was being sarcastic in leaving them lying around for me.

I thought these were something you wore on your wrist to signify you were a blood donor?

I have wondered about the legality of postmen doing this for some time. After all, if one of the plebs, sorry, ordinary member of the public, were to dispose of a rubber band in this manner, the local gestapo, sorry, community wardens, would be down on him or her like a ton of bricks and would cheerfully impose a spot fine. When I find them in my garden, I reuse them. However, I have found that they do seem to snap quickly, more so than other rubber bands.

Happy Birthday Bully!

Shocked to hear that people might be throwing these useful items away - send Freepost to NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) who are using them in their Stomach Banding for the Economically Challenged programme - NICE's contribution to the fight against obesity.

They are dropped so the post people know their way back home. Please do not pick them up.
